Eulia Church History Part One
CHURCH HISTORY

Eulia General Baptist church was organized in 1875 in an old school house. The first pastor was Rev. Ephrim Stinson. The first church house was built in 1875. After 35 years, the second house was built in 1910. This house was used until 1943 when the present brick house was built, with the location being moved to the Eulia cemetery. According to Bro. Aubrey Sloan, Eulia was named for the community in which it resides. When people came here in covered wagons, it is reported that a family with the last name of “Eulia” stopped at the spring. They settled here and thus the name of the community became Eulia. (We have no confirmation for this fact).

In 1943 the church had grown to 95 members. The first sermon was preached in the present building on August 14, 1943 by Rev. H.S. Jenkins. In 1949 Sunday school was organized.

There have been several additions and changes to the building over the past 56 years. In 1955, a new addition was built for Sunday school rooms. In 1971, 3 more Sunday school rooms were added along with rest rooms. Following is a list of the building and remodeling done: 1967, new seats and stand, paneled and painted auditorium, and carpeted the aisle, altar and stand. 1968, installed central air and heat, 1969, new piano and new curtains behind the stand, 1975, new drapes.

In the Spring of 1976, the parking lot was black-topped; 1983 handicapped ramps were built; 1983-seats padded; 1984-aluminum siding was attached to part of the church’s exterior; 1986-city water installed; 1989 an eating shelter was built; 1990- aluminum siding added to the rest of the wooden exterior of the church; 1993- new windows were installed in sanctuary; 1997- new surface put on the porch and steps; 1999- steeple attached and new lights were added to the interior of the church. Other remodels conducted through the years. A new fellowship hall was constructed in 2006.
